Q: There is a field called workspace in the account sign up. What is it?

A: The workspace name is an easy way of linking to your Adam content. If you want to quickly share your content, it would be a serious hassle to remember a URL such as adamsapp.com/document_display.php?USER_ID=1&CURRENT_DOCUMENT=2&CURRENT_PAGE=1, and then another one for a different document that you created.

There for all you have to do is remember your workspace name and put it in front of adamsapp.com. So if your workspace name is "shmootie", all you have to tell someone is shmootie.adamsapp.com. I they use that URL the will get the latest document you made active, and a drop down to your other documents.

Q: Can I put Javascript in my hotspots and document header and footer?

A: No. Unfortunately there are malicious folk out there who could use Javascript to exploit Adam. Javascript tags are therefore stripped out of hotspots and the doument header/footer.

Q: I am familiar with CSS and would like to use my own styles to customize my hotspot output. Can I do this?

A: Yes! After you have logged into the admin area of Adam, you will see a navigation link at the top called "add styles". Click this link. You will now see a page dedicated to writing your own CSS entries. At the top is a dropdown where you can select an existing style sheet to edit, or you can start from scratch.

The first text area labeled "Popup" is where you can specify CSS entries that effect the look of the popup that contains the hotspot content. You may want to change things like height, width, font, color, border, padding etc.

The next five text areas labeled "Field 1, Field 2 etc." is where you can specify CSS entries that effect the look of the content for that particular field. Again you can change things like font, color etc.

Once you are done editing your CSS, you can name the style sheet at the bottom of the page and click save. There is also a delete button if you no longer want the currently loaded style sheet.

Once saved, your style sheet will appear in the dropdown labeled "Style" in the "Hotspot" tab on your toolbar when editing hotspots. If a style sheet is selected from the dropdown, the style sheet settings will always override the simple settings for the hotspot (ie. bold, italic, size etc.)

Q: When my user clicks my hotspot, I want to take them to a new page of my choice. Can this be done?

A: Yes! In the "Hotspot" tab on the toolbar there is a field labeled "Link". You can enter any url in this field. Any hotspot that follows the mouse (has the "Free" setting checked), will take the user to the specified link when the hotspot is clicked. This feature is particularly useful when integrating an EFlyer with a shopping cart. There is also a checkbox that is labeled "Open Link In New Window". When checked, the user will always get the page opened in a new window in their browser. Otherwise, if a second window already exists, the new page will open in that.

Q: I am creating an EFlyer and have a lot of inventory items that I will user over and over. Do I have to re-enter all of the item information each time I want to create a hotspot for it?

A: No you don't. Once you have entered the information for a hotspot, you can save the hotspot information and settings. In the "Hotspot" tab on the toolbar you will see a field labeled "Hotspot Code". Enter a code here that will be used to reference your item. This could be the item's sku number or any code you will remember the item by. Above the field are two buttons. The button that is a page with an arrow is for loading an existing inventory item. The other button is for saving the current inventory item.

Q: How do I add video and music to my hotspots?

A: First you will need to upload your video or music file to a content provider such as YouTube or imeem. These content providers will give you an embed code for putting content on your own website. An example YouTube embed code looks like this:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Fe6KD2Qe0TU&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Fe6KD2Qe0TU&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

You would take this embed code, exactly as it is, and paste it into your hotspot field. That is all there is to it. Check out our demo of supported content providers to see what else is possible.

Q: How do I add an image to my hotspot content?

A: Currently images are supported via html. This means your image must exist somewhere on the web and you need to know the link for it. If your image link is:

http://adamsapp.com/demo/kitchen.jpg

you would enter the following html into your field:

<img src="http://adamsapp.com/demo/kitchen.jpg" />

Q: When I am viewing my document and I mouse over a hotspot, it follows the mouse. How can I make the hotspot content stay put?

A: When editing your hotspot, click the "Hotspot" tab on the toolbar. One of the check boxes is labeled "Free". When checked, the hotspot content "roams free" and follows the mouse. If you leave in unchecked, the hotspot content stays put until the user either mouses over another hotspot, or clicks the close icon.

Remember to save your document after you change hotspot settings.

Update: Embedded objects such as video and music players will now automatically be "sticky". These types of objects require the user to press a play button or access volume controls. If this type of content were to follow the mouse, they would never be able to play and view the content.

Q: How do I add content to a hotspot?

A: Each hotspot can contain up to five fields of data. To add content to a hotspot, you first click the hotspot you want to modify. A selected hotspot will change to a blue color. Next click on any of the "Field" tabs in the toolbar. You will see an area open up where you can enter content.

Type in either text or html into the field. You can specify bold or italic text using the check boxes below the field input. You can also select a font size and color.

Once you have saved the document, any time a user mouses over the hotspot, the content you entered into the fields will appear.

Hello everyone. I am very excited about the launch of Adam Beta. I thought I'd create a place where I can address specific questions that get asked most often. If you have a question, this is a good place to look for the answer first. If you have a new question please post in the discussion area and I will make sure to answer it. If the question is a good fit for the FAQ, I will add it here.
